Really, really slow download speed? : ffxiv

Apr 02,  · Hi, I purchased Stormblood a few days ago, and I have been waiting the past few days to install the 10GB that the launcher says, however the internet speeds that I am seeing from the launcher are worrying, as it says that I am downloading mb/s, and that it is going to take minutes, which is very strange considering the client usually updates patches and updates at around mb/s. Apr 04,  · FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. game after the demo levels, however after downloading the first 8gb trough steam i started using the launcher and the download speeds are terribly slow,it went ok for the first mb or so but then it plummeted to mb's (trough steam i would get around mb/s) i just wanted to know if this is supposed to be. For Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "Launcher Download speed".

When i start the launcherit starts with full download speedthen it start to get slower and slower to 0. This is fresh installsteam version The download speed was fine when i was downloading the base game from steam but now idk what is the problemtried restarting it and the routerstill same issue Also it shows that download size of heavensward is MBi thought it said 10GB before i started it please help.

Make sure you've got nothing else using your internet connection. I'm on PS4, but when I've got the full use of my connection available, it uses the full speed, ffxiv slow download pc. If someone else is using it, or if I've got something else going in the background, it's slower. Nothing is downloading in backgroundis there a specific way to ffxiv slow download pc if anything sucking my speed?

Check the networking tab. It should show how much of your ffxiv slow download pc is being used, ffxiv slow download pc. This happened to me when I was reinstalling HW a few days ago, my solution was just unplugging the Ethernet cable mid download or plugging it in for somewhich brought mine up from 0.

Mine's doing the same, no matter what system I'm using. My download speed from speedtest. Nothing else is connected to the internet right now. Does SE have a transfer cap or something? Unfortunately, your problem is likely just that SE's patch hosting is completely shit. They need to invest in a decent CDN service.

That being said, ffxiv slow download pc, the patcher used to use bittorrent on the backend, and may very well still use bittorrent. Bittorrent unless they modified the scheme requires uploading to avoid getting snubbed, which kills your download speed.

This, in turn, requires port forwarding because the inbound connections from other clients are unsolicited. They've become increasing cagey about how their patcher works, so all bets are off today.

But in any case, they definitely make use of UPnP, and there's no reason to do that unless something requires port-forwarding. If the uPnP automagic fails for whatever reason, this might choke your downloads. Good luck figuring out exactly what needs to be forwarded, though. The closest I can come to an official list is here.

TCP , They also list several UDP ports elsewhere, but these are probably only used by the game client, not the patcher. Unfortunately, ffxiv slow download pc, they don't say what any of these ports are used for, ffxiv slow download pc, or even whether they are inbound or outbound connections i.

It's anyone's guess which, ffxiv slow download pc, if any, need ffxiv slow download pc be forwarded.

You might try forwarding TCP , en masse, but don't cross your fingers. Their hosting is terrible. I have never seen it use BT and my downloads of patches have always been 5 megabytes per second or higher on comcast and other shit ISPs. I didn't say it was definitely using bittorrent now. I am not presently in the position don't have the tools with me to do even a cursory RE analysis of the patcher. All I said was that it used it in the past and so could conceivably still be using it now.

And yes, it definitely did. It was before my time and maybe even pre-ARR for all I know, but it was definitely possible to extract the torrent info from the downloader's cache and fetch the patch with an external bt client at some point in time. Moreover, the problem is intermittent. It may be absurdly slow for 2 weeks and then ffxiv slow download pc fine for the next 3 months. That's not a local network configuration problem --whatever you're even trying to imply by that.

They've used bittorrent in the past. Later this was replaced with a different, proprietary P2P system provided by, you guessed it, Akamai. Again, I haven't personally taken the downloader apart to see for myself, but there's no reason to think they've changed this. The continued use of UPnP also hints that this is still the case. Certainly the game servers shouldn't be connecting to the client on unsolicited ports.

So what I strongly suspect is happening is that P2P portion of the CDN fails for whatever reason and the DDL fallback just doesn't have enough bandwidth to function as the sole download source. The difference is very dramatic. Either it works just fine or it crawls to subKbps. As for why it fails, I can only guess.

It's not "bad configuration". I suppose the downloader itself might just be badly broken, but the inconsistent behavior lends itself more to network issues. So: check UPnP. My caveat emptor is just that for a lot of people, it's none of the above. Okay alot of what your saying could be theoretically true or not and is difficult to test, but the part about the DDL fallback not having enough bandwidth doesn't seem to make alot of sense ffxiv slow download pc me, this is Akamai after all, ffxiv slow download pc, they got hundreds of CDN server farms all over the world.

Just going around blaming square is without anything solid to base it on is just as bad as me accusing you of not knowing what your doing with networking. I'm not saying SE isn't at fault, but you've got nothing beyond conjecture to base it on at this point. So at this point I'm saying you still have no idea what your talking about in regards to networking but I've got nothing to base it on. Let the blame game continue :.
